Ardbeg Arrrrrrrdbeg! Islay Single Malt Whisky - bottled to commemorate the 13 years of Ardbeg excellence under the helm of distillery manager Mickey Heads. He retired in 2020 as distillery manager. The Ardbeg Arrrrrrrdbeg! Committee Release matured in ex rye casks, which will likely give some spicey notes next to the smokiness and tropical fruits that we all love so much in Ardbeg single malt whisky. On the nose, aromas of smoked banana and pear drift into hints of rye bread, sweet vanilla toffee and the gentlest breeze of aniseed. With a splash of water, citrusy lemon and lime make course through the senses, while refreshing notes of sherbet and sweet pastry come to the fore. On the palate is creamy and viscous, quite powerful. Holla, with his 51.8% he is going pretty well. Light fruity notes of grapefruit, pineapple, oranges and citrus juice also dominate on the tongue. There is a certain astringency. Dry wood, grated almonds. The smoke note is rather reserved. Pleasant sweetness, which here on the tongue, in contrast to the nose, is hardly contrasted with spices. Maybe a little pepper. The finish is long but remains nice and creamy and fruity until it ends, leaving seaspray, brazil nuts and faint smoke listing on the palate.
